Study suggests 45 minutes of physical activity a week may be the magic number for seniors with arthritis
Canadian Federal guidelines suggest that seniors should be aiming to achieve 150 minutes of moderate physical activity a week for preventative medicine. Yet, only one in ten are found to actually be achieving this suggested goal. Researchers found in a study with seniors with arthritis in their knees that those who reached the more attainable weekly goal of 45 minutes of moderate physical activity a week were more likely to maintain mobility over the next couple years than their less active counterparts.

An Ohio State University study found evidence that suggests that runners who lack deep core muscle strength are more susceptible to low back pain. The supposition is that if those deep core muscles aren't being activated enough then the superficial core muscles such as the abdominals will help to compensate. When the superficial muscles are forced to pick up the slack during running they are more likely to tire out prematurely. Overall, when the deep core is weak the rest of the body will compensate, this puts more pressure on the spine and the likelihood of developing chronic low pain increases. Researchers suggest using static core exercises to activate and strengthen the deep core muscles.

Proper spinal alignment is integral to the proper functioning of our immune systems. Chiropractic intervention can help correct spinal subluxations which can interfere with the nervous system. The nervous system has a direct influence on the control of the immune system. Misalignments can put pressure on nerves, upon adjustment this pressure can be released thereby allowing proper interaction to occur between the nervous system and immune system. A healthy immune system is essential for combating against bacteria, viruses...etc. Regular chiropractic adjustments in combination with proper diet, exercise and sleep will help you be better prepared to combat the ailments this season!

Many people who suffer from arthritis report an increase in joint pain when the seasons change and the thermostat drops. But why is this? The main theory to explain this phenomenon is that barometric pressure may be responsible for this. However, it's a popularly debated topic, we can't say for sure whether or not this is the case.
Barometric pressure otherwise known as atmospheric pressure is the force applied to a surface by the weight of the atmosphere at any particular given point. For instance, upon the development of a storm system, the barometric pressure will begin to drop. So, as the winter approaches, the pressure drops and the tissues in the body may expand. This expansion puts more pressure on the nerves which can have a tendency to cause an increase in the frequency of the pain signals being sent to the brain.

Foods have an immense impact on your brain, and eating whole foods is the best way to support both your physical and mental health. Based on the evidence, avoiding sugar is an important prevention and treatment strategy for anxiety and depression, both of which are rising in prevalence.
A number of studies have linked high-sugar diets to a higher risk of depression. A Dublin-based study testing yogurt on more than 4,300 people found 39% of the women and 52% of the men had a lower osteoporosis risk when they ate yogurt compared to those who did not.
Reading labels on the yogurt you buy is important, as some brands may offer a few “clean” options, but most of them are loaded with harmful additives such as sugar, preservatives and artificial sugar and colorings.
Raw grass fed yogurt is a great source of natural, healthy bacteria, which are microorganisms in your gut that interact with your body in ways that can prevent the development of many diseases

The American Chiropractic Association states at any one time, nearly 31 million Americans suffer from lower back pain. In 2012, the American Physical Therapy Association surveyed and found more than one-third of adults were affected, but two-thirds of them chose not to seek treatment.
Most cases of lower back pain are related to a mechanical issue. In other words, the pain is related to a musculoskeletal condition, and not the result of an underlying medical condition such as kidney stone, cancer, arthritis or fracture.
Fortunately, many musculoskeletal issues may be successfully addressed without the use of surgery or dangerous drugs. A recent study has demonstrated the average person experienced a one-point reduction in lower back pain following spinal manipulation.
